The heartrending, magical sequel in an unforgettable fantasy-filled adventure through World War One.
After Lufbery, everything changed.
Still reeling from the trauma of their last mission, Marcus and Jane idle in a holding pattern, testing trinkets for possible magic effects far behind the danger of the front lines. But though they're removed from the action, violent magic picks at the security they once enjoyed.
A new mission calls them to Ireland, and their sense of honor and loyalty faces challenges like never before. For one of them, it's harder than ever to comply with orders. For the other, obeying commands without question becomes paramount to survival. And these differences in perspective have a monumental impact on more than their relationship. The Allied War Effort may be at stake.
When their new assignment requires them to pose undercover as husband and wife, feelings about warfare aren't the only ones evolving. As they struggle to reconcile their doubt in magic and friendship, panic drives them to bold conclusions.
Split second decisions lead down roads of no return. And in the confusion, their mysterious, magical enemy grows more and more powerful.
They're in a magical arms race, and there are more devices to be found…
Continue a magical, high-flying adventure with a novel readers are calling brilliant, emotional, and gripping.
"Returning to WWI with Marcus and Jane was an unexpected journey that mystified, surprised, and left my heart broken in the best way."

The end of Book 1 had left off with a sense of hope. Book 2 does not begin there but instead starts on a jarring note of dissonance. Things are grim; the feelings at the end of Book 1 have been all but destroyed. Jane and Marcus get pulled down different roads even as they struggle to remain who they are and not lose each other. Those who've read the Luella Winthrop Trilogy will be tickled with a connection hinted at throughout Book 2 and finally disclosed at the end of the volume. Strands of Fire is an exploration of the depths of friendship, fear, love, and transcending expectations all steeped in the throes of real and frim history.
I really enjoyed this book and I’m not normally a fan of fantasy. Marcus and Jane continue their journey to find magical artifacts while battling flyers that are hell-bent on preventing the completion of this mission. I enjoyed the first book Shards of Lafayette but really for engaged with the character development in book 2. I found myself breathlessly rooting for both of them. This book was well worth my time, but I will say it really comes alive only if you’ve first read book 1.
I appreciate the author's take on history stirred with a little mystery, magic, heartbreak and fear. The characters touched me with their duplicity of heart when faced with difficulty and the stress in the moment. The storyline is intriguing and touched with magic to give character to the bizarre aspects of war. I'm never sure where the author will take me next in his books, but I enjoy the journey. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Omg I love this series. I was given a beta of the book. Its amazing if you liked the first book then you will love this one. So much happens. So many things are explained. Its another homerun for Mr. Baldwin!
